Troubleshooting Microlok Units


Troubleshooting a Microlok unit requires a careful and systematic approach because the unit controls vital railroad signal functions.

A Microlok problem may involve hardware, software, communication, wiring, field equipment, power, or programmed logic.

1. Start With System Status

One of the first steps in troubleshooting is to check the Microlok status indicators, alarms, event logs, and diagnostic software.

These tools help identify whether the problem is coming from the processor, input/output modules, communication link, power supply, or field equipment.

2. Hardware Problems

Hardware problems may include failed power supplies, bad input modules, bad output modules, loose cards, failed processors, blown fuses, or damaged wiring.

Troubleshooting hardware may require checking voltage, verifying module status lights, inspecting connections, and replacing failed components.

3. Communication Problems

Microlok units may communicate with control systems, remote equipment, neighboring locations, or other signal equipment.
